Top-ranked Hodgson travels across town to face Division 1 Newark
Our Friday night game of the week features a matchup between a Hodgson team ranked No. 1 in Division 2 and a Newark Yellowjacket team that finds itself with its back against the wall in regards to postseason play.
Hodgson (5-2) is coming off a convincing 49-0 win over Brandywine in a game which they held the Bulldogs to just 38 total yards. Senior running back Rakeim Woodland rushed for two touchdowns and senior linebacker Bilal Nichols scooped up a fumble and returned it 30 yards for a score to pace the Silver Eagles. Hodgson has forced a running clock in four of its five wins this season and has pitched shutouts in two of their last three games.
But the Silver Eagles are going to have their hands full against a Newark offense that rolled up 42 points last week during a homecoming celebration against Appoquinimink. Senior captains Austin Lockett and Keith Stubbs ran for two touchdowns apiece as Newark (3-4) piled up 368 rushing yards.
It’s a classic Division 1 versus Division 2 matchup between two school separated by just seven miles.
