Caravel celebrates homecoming with easy win over Glasgow
Aaron Hudson had a performance in his final homecoming game that he’llremember long after graduation.
The senior running back hauled in touchdown passes of 25 and 16 yards in the first half and sprinted 62 yards into the end zone on the second play of the third quarter to lead the Buccaneers to a convincing 42-6 win over Glasgow.
Caravel (5-2) scored on its second and third possessions of the game to jump out to a 13-0 lead and then scored 21 points in the third quarter to put away Glasgow (3-4) in the teams’ first ever matchup.
Senior quarterback Derrick Groomes played like a king in complete control of his court — and was crowned homecoming king at halftime — completing six of 12 passes for 102 yards and three touchdowns. Junior Jake Shriner rushed for 88 yards, scoring on runs of 8 and 26 yards, and junior Dennis Robinson hauled in Groomes’ third touchdown toss of the night, a 34-yard strike in the third quarter.
Glasgow’s lone touchdown came in the second quarter after an 80-yard scoring drive that was highlighted by two third-down conversions and a fourth-down Caravel offside before Lammot Brown scampered 3 yards into the end zone for the score.
Hudson finished with 88 yards rushing and was named the Crown Trophy Player of the Game.
Next week’s 1290 The Ticket game features another Division 1-2 matchup as top-ranked Hodgson (5-2) travels across town to face Newark (3-4) on Friday night. The Glasgow Medical Aid Units Pregame Show is at 6:30 followed by kickoff at 7 on 1290 The Ticket and 1290TheTicket.com.
